Mr. Doyle Preston Taylor, 90, a resident of Dozier, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Monday, October 25th, 2021. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday October 28, in Mt Ida Cemetery with Rev. Hank Roberts officiating and with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Taylor proudly served his country with the United States Army, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant before his retirement. He spent much of his time in service as a nuclear weapons specialist, and he received numerous commendations and citations during his years of service. Mr. Taylor always loved to keep his mind active, and he spoke three languages (English, Spanish, and German) quite fluently. In fact, he spent several years working as a Spanish interpreter for the Covington County Sheriff's Office. After his retirement, he and his beloved wife, Sue, spent several years traveling around the country and even did some mission work. Mr. Taylor was also something of a history buff and could regale you for hours with his knowledge of local and family history. He enjoyed spending time with his church family, but there was nothing more important to him than his family. Though he and Sue were never blessed with children of their own, they prized their roles as doting uncle and aunt to a whole host of nieces and nephews. He occupied a special role in the lives of his family, and leaves mighty large shoes to fill behind him.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife, Sue R. Taylor; parents, Richard Furman and Clara Compton Taylor; and siblings, Robert Willis Taylor, Henry Griffin Taylor, and Barbara Jean Williamson. He is survived by brother John David Taylor, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Daniel Weaver, Blake Weaver, Vincent Beasley, Daniel Jones, Jeremy Kilpatrick, and Josh Kilpatrick.
The family will receive friends at the Mt Ida Church on Thursday from 1- 2 PM.
