Obituary

Edna R. King, 88, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, August 31st, 2026. Funeral services for Edna will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, September 3rd, at Luverne United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Edna was kind to everyone she met and truly never met a stranger. She loved people, loved to talk, and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. She had a beautiful garden, filled with flowers so lovely that even strangers would stop just to admire them. She was also a phenomenal cook, famous amongst her family for her chocolate pie, a favorite that visitors often requested, as well as her chicken and dumplings. On Saturdays in the Fall, you were most likely to find Miss Edna cheering on her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide on to victory on the gridiron. Above all, she was someone who showed her love by taking care of others. Whether someone had experienced a loss or was celebrating one of life's special occasions, she could be counted on to show up with food, home-grown vegetables, and a caring heart.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Walter B. King; son, Donald K. Bane; parents, Julian Johnny & Bertha Deavers Broadway; and siblings, Johnny R. Broadway, William Broadway, Robert "Hayward" Broadway, and Evelyn B. Armstrong. She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Y. (Mark) Cook; grandchildren, Mason (Janie) Cook, Ryan Cook (Jessica Kizer), Mathew Bane, and Timothy Bane; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Wilma B. Bush and Dr. Charles Broadway; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
