Edward Earl Hilburn Jr, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Friday, January 16th, 2026. A celebration of Edward's life has not been scheduled at this time.
Edward proudly served his country with the United States Air Force until his retirement in 1995. He was also a gifted writer and a published poet thanks to Books-a-Million. It's no surprise, then, that he was also an avid reader and intellectual throughout his life. He was the kind of person who could thoughtfully converse with you for hours on any subject, whether it be books, ideas, or life in general. He was candid and opinionated, but never in an argumentative or belligerent way. Edward was always grounded by his own spirituality as a practicing Buddhist, with Southern Baptist roots. There was nothing he valued more than growth, compassion, and the lifelong work of bettering oneself. He was also a true cat lover at heart. While he never married or had children, his sister, her daughter, and her grandchildren were all the family he needed in his heart. He loved them all dearly and they loved him back. Edward will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him, but he will continue to live on in their hearts for many more years to come.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Earl Sr & Willa Eklund Hilburn. He is survived by his sister, Gloria Armstrong; niece, Sarah (Mark) Harris, and their children, Alexander Harris and Abigail Harris.
