Mr. McCarthy was a dedicated family man who began his working career as a mechanic. Though he excelled at his job, able to repair anything, he eventually went into the logging business where he owned and operated his own company. He had a musical soul, and loved strumming his guitar more than just about anything else. Above all, however, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who truly knew the value of family.
Mr. McCarthy was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Godwin McCarthy; parents, Charlie & Corine Hall McCarthy; and siblings, Phillip H. McCarthy, Hazel M. Alexander, Judy M. Williamson, and Sue M. Mobley. He is survived by his children, DeWayne McCarthy and Karen McCarthy Morgan; grandchildren, Alicia Powell and David A. Powell Jr; siblings, Glen McCarthy, Robert McCarthy, Carolyn M. Mitchell, Shirley M. Killough, and Janice M. Counts; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry Davis, Jasper Holley, Cyril Hargrove, and Jeremy Alexander.
