Elizabeth "Liz" Farris, 87, a resident of Petrey, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crowne Healthcare in Montgomery on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025. A graveside service for Liz will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 29th, in Petrey Cemetery with her son-in-law, Sandy Smith, delivering the eulogy and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
Liz was a dedicated worker throughout her life until her retirement as a materials planner from Hager Hinge. She was also a voracious reader who loved losing herself in a variety of genres to worlds and lands unseen. On Fridays in the Fall, you could usually find her cheering on her favorite team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, on the gridiron. Liz was also the rare type who always knew her mind and never failed to express herself on any occasion. You never had to question where you stood with her or doubt her opinion. But she also had a contagious laugh to blunt her sharp honesty and a fierce mama bear when it came to her beloved children and grandchildren. Words could not capture how much she was loved nor how much she will be missed, but comfort can be found in the knowledge that she is now safe in the arms of her beloved savior and celebrating a homecoming with all the cherished loved ones who went before her.
Liz was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elwood Farris; daughter, Darda Stephenson; grandson, David Stephenson; parents, Robert B. & Lillian Dolbosco Farris; and brother, Robert B. Cruz Jr. She is survived by her children, Lillian McGeehon, Eddie Barrera, and Michelle (Sandy) Smith; grandchildren, Felicia (Lamon) Collins, Teddy (Haleigh) Barrera, Lanie Kazer, Savanna Smith, Woody Smith, and Riley McGeehon; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Active pallbearers will be Teddy Barrera, Woody Smith, Bobby Beasley, Morris May, Seyth Smith, and Lamon Collins.
