Mrs. Eloise Jeffcoat Richardson, 99, a resident of Rutledge, Alabama, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019. Funeral services for Mrs. Richardson will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, January 17, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Minister John Dickinson officiating. Interment will follow in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mrs. Richardson attended numerous schools during her academic career including: Campground, Petrey, Luverne High School, Enterprise Junior College, and Lurleen B. Wallace Junior College in Andalusia. She ultimately received her Bachelor’s in Education from Troy State University in 1975. She taught for 12 years in the Crenshaw County Public School System and retired on May 22, 1987. Prior to earning her degree, Mrs. Richardson also worked as a Lunch Room Supervisor at Chapel Hill Elementary School and at Boss Manufacturing in Greenville. Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and the arduous process of canning and preserving her vegetables and fruits. However, there was nothing Mrs. Richardson enjoyed more than spending her time with her children and their families. She relished preparing feasts for them and their friends. More recently, she delighted in visits from all of her family, but most especially from her great and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by her husband, William Pomeroy Richardson; son, Charles Pomeroy Richardson; sons-in-law, Peter M. Burrows and Cecil R. Thomas; parents, Dossie Bruner Hydrick and Euna Mae Walker Jeffcoat; stepmother, Kate Hawkins Jeffcoat; and four brothers, D. Reynolds Jeffcoat, William Jeffcoat, James Lamar Jeffcoat, and Melvin Eugene Jeffcoat.
She is survived by her two daughters, Joyce R. Burrows and Elaine R. Thomas; daughter-in-law, Jean S. Richardson; four grandchildren, Tammie R. (Chris) Bryan, Brian (Becky) Richardson, Britt Richardson, and Beth R. (Matthew) Marshall; eleven great-grandchildren, Mallorie J. (Jason) Chandler, Sydnee Bryan, Brittney Richardson, Evan Richardson, Josef Richardson, Celeste R. Davis, Lucas Richardson, Hope Richardson, Margaret “Maggie” Marshall, Mollie Marshall, and Marcie Marshall; six great-great-grandchildren, Caleb Chandler, Cayden Chandler, Marlee Chandler, Olivia Richardson, Axton Salvato, and Wyatt Davis; two siblings, Charles Raymond Jeffcoat and Marzelle J. (Ralph) Simpler; seventeen nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and six Walker and Jeffcoat first cousins.
Active pallbearers will be Brian Richardson, Britt Richardson, Chris Bryan, Matthew Marshall, Evan Richardson, Josef Richardson, and Lucas Richardson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 - 2pm.
