Mr. Eric Randall Johnson, 58, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham on Wednesday, March 30th, 2022. A graveside service for Mr. Johnson will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, April 3rd, in Brantley Cemetery with his wife, Dionne Johnson, delivering the eulogy. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
Mr. Johnson spent 28 years working the Department of Transportation for the State of Alabama. His work mapping the roads in the state providing the basis for GPS directions to keep people from getting lost. He also proudly served his country with the United States Army Reserves for 33 years before retiring as a First Sergeant. Mr. Johnson had an endearing personality in that he made friends fairly easily and loved to talk smack with all of them. He could definitely be the life of the party, making sure that times spent together were never boring. He was also an avid supporter of the Brantley Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Mr. Johnson was a devoted & selfless provider for his family, as no one meant more to him that his beloved wife and sons. They knew how much he loved them and prioritized their needs, though they also knew that his love of golf came in at a close second! He was truly a one-of-a-kind and his indomitable spirit has been a true inspiration for all those who knew him as he fought with everything he had against his health issues for the last few years. His strong will kept him going when nothing else could, and he will always be remembered for his remarkable passion for life.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father, George Windham Johnson, and his father-in-law, Ralph Donald Warrick. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Dionne Warrick Johnson; their sons, William Andrew Stone, Wyndham Adam Johnson, and Walter Alan Johnson; mother, Gwen Stroup Johnson; siblings, Jay (Denise) Johnson, Windy (Stevie) Taylor, and Melissa Wright; mother-in-law, Shirley Warrick; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be his golfing buddies: Ashley Kilcrease, Andrew Kilcrease, Chad Turner, Jeff Bush, Hunter Barrow, Roland Jones, Randall Free, Russ Tranum, and Chad Carpenter.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Johnson wanted memorial donations made to the Alex Wilcox Memorial Fund, c/o Brantley Bank & Trust, P.O. Box 25, Brantley, Alabama 36009, because Alex was his hero.
