Mr. Ernest Gilbert Register, 88, a resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022. A graveside service for Mr. Register will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, January 8th, in Sweetwater Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Register proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, he went into auto body repair as a very skilled mechanic, an occupation that served him well for over 50 years. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors either hunting or fishing. Mr. Register had a gift for working with his hands. He was famous for being able to repair almost anything, plus being able to build just about anything. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always adored his family. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all of them, and couldn't have been prouder of them. He will be sorely missed, but he will continue to live on in the thoughts and hearts of all those he leaves behind.
Mr. Register was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rhodes Register; granddaughter, Ashley Blackwell; son-in-law, Thomas Blackwell; parents, Hilton & Nora Thomas Register; and brother, Euel Register. He is survived by his loving children, David (Shawn) Register and Patricia Blackwell; grandchildren, Ryan (Jamie) Register, Colby Register, Miranda Register, Jessica (Jonathan) Cox, and Thomas (Meribeth) Blackwell; and great-grandchildren, Wyatt Register, Grayden Blackwell, Riley Blackwell, Lilly Blackwell, Baylor Cox, Brewer Cox, and Barton Cox.
Active pallbearers will be Colby Register, Ryan Register, Austin Register, Tab Blackwell, Jonathan Cox, and Mike Sexton.
Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at service time.
