Etta Lou King

October 23, 1916 — May 12, 2022

Luverne

Mrs. Etta Lou Williams King, 105, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Thursday, May 12th, 2022. Funeral services for Mrs. King will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 18th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Clay Crum officiating. Interment will follow in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. King was a member of our country's famous Greatest Generation, and she was a proven survivor through all of the hardships she endured throughout her life. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Luverne, and proudly not only their oldest member but also the oldest resident of Crenshaw County. Mrs. King was an excellent seamstress, having worked for several years with Luverne Slacks, but she devoted the majority of her life to making a home for her family. She was quite talented in the kitchen and could whip up any number of scrumptious dishes for her family and friends. However, she truly shined in tending to her beloved flowers. She was a firm believer that Saturdays were to be devoted to working in her flower beds, and if you were visiting at the time, you were expected to pitch in to help! Ultimately, Mrs. King was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family as her greatest blessing. By the way, she always said the secret to a long life was a tablespoon of "goodness" before bed.

Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raphael King; parents, Thomas Alec & Clara Lou Shows Williams; and sister, Frances Killough. She is survived by her children, Mary Holland Davis, Walter Alex (Jackie) King, and Penelope Bratton; grandchildren, Eric (Maki) Davis, Walter (Karmina) King, Alan (Jennifer) King, Patti (Alan) Reynolds, and Penny (Steve) Walsh; great-grandchildren, Emily Davis, Karen Davis, Willamina King, Morgan (Taylor) Huse, Macy Reynolds, and Brandi (Philipp) Tellers; brother-in-law, Barnett (Edna) King; and multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other extended family members.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Charles Tompkins, the Luverne EMS, and the staffs of Crenshaw Community Hospital and Luverne Health & Rehabilitation for their excellent care of Mrs. King over the years, as well as Brother Clay Crum for always checking on her. They request that any memorial donations be made to either the First Baptist Church or any of the above organizations.
