Glenda Lane Crowe

January 26, 1947 — September 18, 2023

Andalusia

Glenda Lane Crowe, 76, a resident of Andalusia, Alabama and formerly of Luverne, passed away at Mobile Infirmary on Monday, September 18th, 2023. A memorial service will be held at the home of Stacy Adcock on Sunday, October 1st, at 1 PM.

Glenda brightened up every room she entered with both her engaging smile and lovable, free-spirited personality. Wherever she went, she was going to have a good time and could keep everyone around her laughing and thoroughly entertained. There were few things she enjoyed more than traveling with her family and friends. It didn't matter if you wanted to go to the mountains, New Orleans, the lake, or the beach, as long as she was with people she loved, she was going to have the best of times. Glenda always had to have some music playing because if there was one thing guaranteed to happen it was that she was going to find a reason to dance her heart out! Classic country was, naturally, her favorite genre, though, like every Southern woman of a certain age, her heart belonged to the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley. She had an easy laugh and prank-loving sense of humor, but her heart was as big as the ocean and she had room for everyone in it. Glenda was always going to be the first to sacrifice and go out of her way to help others in need, and so many who knew her depended on her to be a safe, sheltering harbor in the storm of their own lives.

"Nana" to her grandchildren and "Nano" to her great-grands (which meant she was soon Nano to everybody!) knew just how to spoil each and every one of them with the most precious possession to had, her love. Nothing could bring a smile to their faces like hearing her voice saying "hey darling" and knowing they were always going to come first in her life. Of course, it didn't hurt that they knew they were also going to get some of the best comfort food possible anytime they visited her, and no situation couldn't be improved by her homemade tomato gravy and biscuits! Raised a Southern Baptist, she loved her Lord and Savior with all of her heart and often spent time with Him through His word so many days. And her soul was nourished by many beloved gospel hymns like Amazing Grace, but she was particularly enamored with Jamey Johnson's "Lead Me Home." Lord knows, Glenda did not have the easiest of lives after losing one of her beautiful girls and the love of her life, but she had a gift in finding the joy everywhere she could. She refused to be defined by tragedy, but displayed true grace under pressure for her family and friends. She was an inspiration to all of them and there's not a single person in her orbit whose life was not improved simply because she was in it. Her leaving has broken so many hearts, but they find comfort in knowing she has her fondest wish in being reunited with her husband, JM, and her precious baby girl.

Glenda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, JM Crowe; daughter, Carlene Oates; parents, William Glenn Waites and Myra Avalane Johnson Howell; and siblings, Joseph Wallace Johnson, Alicia Inez Simmons, and Barbara "Babs" Cain Alexander. She is survived by her cherished daughters, Stacy Adcock (Bobby Weaver) and Amanda (Tim) Worley; grandchildren, Krystal Palomino, Joshua (Brandi) Crowe, Allen (Xena) Adcock, Destinee (Ethan) Hilliard, Alyssa Dean, Whitney (Buddy) Edgar, and Shawna (Skip) Enzor; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Donna Alexander, Edith Stroud Cauley, and Sandra Faye Honert; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
