Grady Wheeler

December 1, 1948 — December 20, 2025

Grady Wheeler, 77, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, while surrounded by his family. A graveside service for Grady will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 23rd, in Indian Creek Church Cemetery with his grandson-in-law, Chris Hale, delivering the eulogy and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing the service. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.

Grady could always do just about whatever he set his mind to doing. He worked in oil & gas, worked off-shore, and spent 45 years working in a variety of businesses with the love of his life, his wife Joyce. Together they owned and operated a trucking business, as well as running their own convenience/grocery stores and chicken houses. Their store on 29 in Brantley was the big teen hangout back in the day thanks to their game room that including pool tables and arcade games. And those teens never came up to Miss Joyce to ask if their daughter could come hang out....they always asked if Mr. Grady could come play with them in the game room! He was always so young at heart that he never failed to keep himself and everyone else around him thoroughly entertained. It's no wonder he loved riding his motorcycles for as long as was humanly possible, and he never failed to enjoy getting the people he loved stirred up about something!

Never doubt though that Grady was blessed with one of the biggest hearts imaginable and loved to strike up a conversation with literally anyone....and that's why his family always took a book with them wherever they went because he could talk for hours wherever he went! Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and "Granddaddy" to two generations of grandchildren who he loved beyond all measure. He was the rock his family was built upon and words cannot possibly express how much he will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Grady was preceded in death by his parents, James E. & Hazel Nichols Wheeler, and siblings, James Wheeler, Dwayne Wheeler, and Sharon Mount. He is survived by his loving spouse of 58 years, Joyce Taylor Wheeler; his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Sandy & Joey Dickey; grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Hale, Joe (Amber) Dickey, Sydni (Corey) Dean, and Madyson Dickey; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Ron Wheeler; brother-in-law, J.R. Mount; sisters-in-law, Jackie Wheeler & Anne Wheeler; faithful canine companions, Sheba & Arlo; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Mason Adcock, Drew Morgan, Mickey Hudson, Jonathan Pierce, Casey Hudson and Gary Peek.
