Grant Roper

January 9, 1983 — June 11, 2021

Lapine

Mr. William Grant Roper, 38, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, June 11, 2021. A graveside service for Grant will be held at 2 PM on Monday, June 14th, in Roper Family Cemetery in Lapine with Rev Harry Driggers officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Grant was a proud graduate of Highland Home High School, where he led the marching band, earned numerous honors, and received several scholarships for his excellent grades. He then went on to the University of South Alabama where he earned bachelor degrees in both Biomedical Science and Nursing. He became a licensed nurse practitioner after receiving his master’s Family Medicine from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. While attending school, he also worked as a nurse in the ER at UAB. He had a great, loving heart which made his occupation perfect for him. He was always the kind of person who put others first and he was dedicated to caring for those who needed it most.

In his free time, Grant loved traveling, especially to the beach, the river, and more exciting locations like New York City. He rarely met a stranger and was an easy person for everyone to love. He loved his Lord, and spent time as a youth minister when he was younger. He enjoyed music and had a beautiful singing voice. He was also good with his hands, from building anything he had a mind to or cooking and baking in the kitchen. Above all, Grant loved his family more than anything else. He adored his baby brothers as well as his niece and nephews as much as if they were his own. His outsized personality endeared him to all those who knew him and he has left behind an enduring legacy of love and laughter.

Grant was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvin & Vivian Thomas and William Jr and Blanche Ann Roper. He is survived by his parents, William Earl & Cynthia Thomas Roper; three siblings, Brittany (Alex) Tindal, Cole Roper, and Blake Roper; niece, Emily Kate Tindal; two nephews, John Austin Roper and Caden Reed Tindal; his significant other, Leith Roberts; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Cole Roper, John Austin Roper, Blake Roper, Alex Tindal, Ricky Roper, and John Hoffman.
