Harvie Nelson Killough, 91, a resident of Rutledge, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Tuesday, March 11th, 2025, while surrounded by his family. Funeral services for Harvie will be held 2 PM on Monday, March 17th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Stae Sanders officiating. He will then be laid to rest beside his beloved wife in Siloam Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday for one hour prior to the service.
Harvie proudly served his country with the United States Navy for four years before returning home to work as a gifted mechanic for the rest of his professional career, a skill learned from his father. You know they say that if you find a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life....and Harvie was fortunate enough to find one that he was not only gifted at, but also loved so much. Truly, he could fix anything with a motor, whether it was a car, tractor, golf cart, motorcycle, or lawn mower, Harvie was the man who could get you back on the road, farm, golf course, or in the backyard!
Harvie was also about as handy as it gets. In fact, if there wasn't a tool for whatever job he needed to do, you could bet he was going to invent his own. In fact, one of his prized possessions was a Farmall Tractor from the 1940s that he has kept running like it was brand new. His son, Tim, just used it to bush-hog last year! In his free time, Harvie loved following stock car racing (from Daytona to local short tracks), frequent lunches at the Chicken Shack since his retirement, and riding his motorcycle. Above all, however, he was a devoted husband, father, and "Grandpa" to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Words cannot fully express how much he meant to every single person who knew and loved him so very well, but they are grateful for over 90 years to make memories they can cherish for the rest of their own lives.
Harvie was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Faye Alvis Killough; parents, Hubie & Lura Merle Killough; brother, Jimmie Killough; nephew, James Killough; sister-in-law, Marian Killough; and brothers-in-law, Graham Mullins, Wayne Boggan, and Don Fox. He is survived by his children, Tim (Jackie) Killough and Pam Killough; grandchildren, Hillary (Ben) Torres, Rachel Emmanuel, Jared Killough, and Bekah Killough; great-grandchildren, Malia Torres, LaMia Emmanuel, and Bennett Torres; siblings, Erlene Mullins, Lura Boggan, Linda Fox, and Ben (Willodeen) Killough; special friend, Flonell Carnes; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Randall Mullins, Kevin Mullins, Steve Smith, Ron Yeomans, Brian Killough, David Killough, and Jared Killough.
