LOWERY, Mrs. Helen Mills West, 90, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Funeral services for Mrs. Lowery will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 2, at Joquin Baptist Church with Randy Wilkes delivering the eulogy and Rev. Wes Hatcher officiating. Interment will follow in Joquin Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mrs. Lowery was a dedicated member of Joquin Baptist Church where she loved teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. After she retired from the Board of Education, she enjoyed spending her time volunteering at both Crenshaw Community Hospital and Luverne Health & Rehabilitation. Mrs. Lowery was a bright, cherished spot in the lives of all those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert West; son, Freddy Lowery; parents, Parker and Idell Gregory Mills; five sisters, Mada Messick, Floyes Wilson, Mildred Wilson, Frances West, and Lena Pearl Carr; and four brothers, Aubrey Mills, Charles Mills, George Mills, and Billy Mills. Mrs. Lowery is survived by her loving husband of 14 years, Frank Lowery; four children, Levorah (Roger) Gerth, Rose (Jeff) Cummings, John Lowery, and Paula (Garland) Evans; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister-in-law, JoAnn Mills; and a number of precious nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Charles Walker, Tommy West, Stephen Mills, Mike Mills, Wayne Wilson, and Bob Vidieh. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Joquin Baptist Cemetery Fund. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10 - 11 AM.
