Mr. Henry Curtis Money, 76, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Thursday, November 26, 2020. A graveside service for Mr. Money will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, November 28th, in Bethel Cemetery with Brother Jason Holladay officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Money was an esteemed member of the Luverne community for most of his life. He began working with the original owner of the Chicken Shack as a young man in 1973, and would take over the restaurant only a few years later. He would go on to turn it into the “must-visit” location for droves of tourists travelling through town, making it famous nationwide to anyone taking Highway 331 to the beaches in Florida. It also became a beloved institution for the entire community, as it became the spot for civic events, company dinners, birthday celebrations, and other important milestones for almost everyone in town.
Of course, none of that would have been possible if it weren’t for his exacting standards, determined to make everything perfect for his customers. He was a model for the kind of work ethic it takes to be successful in his field, and he definitely put his blood, sweat, and tears into it for half a century. Obviously, he never had much free time, but, in the little he had, he enjoyed activities like fishing. He studied English while attending Troy University, and was quite the poet at heart. Above all, he was a devoted family man, as a husband, father, and grandfather. His family and his community will mourn his loss tremendously, but he leaves behind an enviable legacy and large footsteps for them to follow in.
Mr. Money was preceded in death by his grandson, Jacob Henry Money; parents, Jacob Ezra & Rebecca Everage Money; and sister, Rena Rebecca Money Free. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Doris Clark Money; their two sons, Drew (Anita) Money and Michael (Teysa) Money; three grandchildren, Will Money, Gracey Money, and Tucker Money; two brothers, Carl (Gretchen) Money & Cleve Money; and several nieces & nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Will Money, Tucker Money, Jason Perdue, Timothy Langford, Corey Brown, and Barry Butler.
