Funeral for Herman Earl Pierce
Chapel at Turners Funeral Home
Starts at 2:00 pm (Central time)
Herman Earl Pierce, 91, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, while surrounded by his family. Funeral services for Herman will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 7th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Neal Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Turners Funeral Home of Luverne. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
Herman proudly served his country with the United States Air Force and had been scheduled to head off to Korea, however he missed his bus and deployment thanks to a bad case of the flu. It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to him because he was still stationed at Tyndale Air Force Base when a buddy of his took him home to meet his family. It was in that house that he met the love of his life, Cumi Teague, though apparently it took him a minute to get smart enough to ask her out! They married soon afterward and went on to spend almost seven decades in happily wedded bliss while they raised their multi-generation family in the shadow of the legacy of their love and faith.
You will rarely find someone who was quite the people person Herman was. He had a true love for his fellow man and it shone brightly to everyone he met throughout his life. In his free time, he loved finding a peaceful fishing hole somewhere, but there was nothing he enjoyed more than his bluegrass music. He and Cumi loved to head out to the Bluegrass Festival every year. His love for music carried over to him learning how to play the guitar and sing, and you could usually find a guitar pick somewhere on him at any time. Herman also loved to watch a variety of sports over the years from football to NASCAR, but boy there was nothing more entertaining than watching how into a wrestling match he would get back in the day....and it was usually far more memorable than the match itself! Above all, Herman was a man of God, as well as a devoted husband, father, and "Granddaddy" to his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the rock his family was built upon and his legacy will live on for many more years to come.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph & Frances Head Pierce, and siblings, Betty Ann Seals, Tommy Harold Pierce, David Pierce, and Samuel Pierce. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Cumi Teague Pierce; children, Regina (Ricky) Thomas and Randall (Beth) Pierce; grandchildren, Rick (Jessica) Thomas, Richelle (Robert) Peaden, and Amanda (Brian) Bradley; great-grandchildren, Blake Taylor, Shawn Thomas, Josie Peaden, Freddie Peaden, Brynnlee Taylor, Lee Bradley, Gunner McGowan, and Siobhan Bradley; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members.
Active pallbearers will be Rick Thomas, Shawn Thomas, Blake Taylor, Robert Peaden, Sandy Smith, and Seyth Smith.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to SouthernCare Hospice and especially Jordan, Tammy, Kelly, and Kim for all that they did for Herman and the family.
