Howard Lamar Brunson, 73, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 13, 2026, in his home. Funeral services for Howard will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 17th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Stae Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing the services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday for one hour prior to the service.
Howard was born on May 24, 1952, in Alabama to the late Benjamin Lamar Brunson and Annie Katherine Farrior Brunson. He spent 20 years proudly serving his country in the United States Navy as an Aviation Ordinance First Class, including time with the elite P3 Air Crew Squadron VP-24. At home, Howard was a devoted husband to his wife of 57 years, Sheila Padgett Brunson, and a steady, hardworking man who took care of his family in every way that mattered. He was the kind of person you could count on, whether you needed help, a laugh, or just someone to show up. He loved golf, enjoyed his time outdoors, and never met a stranger for long. He also grew & tended the most beautiful garden around his home for many, many years. More than anything, he was "Papa," a title he wore proudly. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a big part of his life, and he made sure they knew they were loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Olin Brunson, Sharon Allen, and Kathy Williams. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sheila Brunson; their children, Larry Brunson, Michael Brunson, and Katrina Bell; grandchildren, Stormie (Joey) Vitello, Dakota Brunson, KaMya Jerido, Connor Williamson, and Chase Williamson; and great-grandchildren, Landon, Aryanna, and Joey; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
