Jack Earl Childs

November 30, 1949 — October 27, 2024

Luverne

Jack Earl Childs, 74, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, October 27th, 2024, while surrounded by his family. A graveside service for Jack will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 31st, in Childs Family Cemetery at 142 El Bethel Road, Luverne, Alabama with Brother Billy Bond officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.

Jack proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged with the rank of lance corporal. He then spent much of his professional career as a truck driver and was extremely proud of his perfect driving record, which was not an easy task when you are in an 18-wheeler! At home, he was truly a jack of all trades as there was nothing he couldn't do, whether it was fixing what needed to be repaired around the house, creating something beautiful through his wood-working, or simply making his "baby" a sandwich! Oh, and wood-working was not by any means "just" a hobby! Jack was the kind of carpenter who could build you a beautiful home from the ground up and there are many houses between Crenshaw and Pike County who bear the mark of his trade. But, most importantly, Jack was kind-hearted, hard-working, and generous to a fault. You could see the love he had for everyone through everything he did and it endeared him to all those who knew and loved him.

He was well-known throughout his community for how dependable and trustworthy he was in everything he did. Jack also gave back to his community through his service with the local volunteer rescue squad and fire department. He also spent 42 years in giving his time and service to his faith with the Jehovah's Witnesses. Above all, Jack was a devoted husband, father, and PawPaw to his beloved grandsons. Additionally, he cherished the companionship he received from his loving pets, Tigger, Toby, and Molly, who were just four-legged members of the family to him. Words cannot express how much Jack was loved by his family, nor how much he will be missed by all of them.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph S. & Voncile McDonald Childs. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janet Johnson Childs; their children, Christopher Earl Childs, William Andrew Childs, and Lisa Jan (Peter) Wilson; grandsons, Dylan Wayne Childs, Dawson Wayde Wilson, Everett Childs, Oliver Childs, and Tate Childs; cherished friends, Tony & Connie Dunn and Annie Rean Wilson; and many other extended family members and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Dylan Childs, Dawson Wilson, Peter Wilson, Jeff McLeod, and Aaron Kelley.
