Mr. James Dewayne Alverson, 74, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away after a month-long battle with Covid pneumonia at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika on Wednesday, September 28th, 2022. A graveside service for Mr. Alverson will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, October 2nd, in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Brantley with Rev. Loyd Hodge officiating and Turners Funeral Home in Luverne directing. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.
Mr. Alverson was a dedicated and hardworking member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Local 52 for over 50 years until his retirement. In his free time, he was an avid outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed activities like hunting, fishing, and working in his garden. He was also known to enjoy a good game on TV, regardless of who he was rooting for. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who truly cherished every moment he was able to spend with the ones he loved the most.
Mr. Alverson was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ira & Thaisia Pittman, and parents, James Marvin "Sonny" Alverson and Doris Wells Thurman. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 51 years, Charlotte Rayborn Alverson; their sons & daughters-in-law, Wade & Janet Alverson and Warren & Elizabeth Alverson; granddaughters, Emily and Emma; great-granddaughters, Adley & Audrey; siblings, Sheila, Gary, Phylliss, Craig, Tonyia, Robbie, and Misti; and a host of nieces & nephews.
