Mr. James Stanley Barrow, 77, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp, Alabama on Sunday, August 21st, 2022. Funeral services for Mr. Barrow will be held at 3 PM on Wednesday, August 24th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cameron Chapel Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.
Stanley was a good-natured, well-loved fixture of his community. He spent most of his working career at the purchasing agent for Structural Wood Systems in Greenville until his retirement. In his youth, he was an impressive and talented baseball player as he developed a love for the game that would persist throughout his life. He enjoyed both fishing and hunting, especially turkeys, and the tall tales that could come out of those trips with friends. He was known to even hit the links every once in a while, enjoying the companionship it fostered as much (if not more) than the game itself. If he was at home, it was almost guaranteed that his beloved canine companion, Lucy, wasn't far from his side. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He knew the true value of his family was more than all the crown jewels. They were a priceless treasure to him and they loved him back just as fiercely. He will be sorely missed, but they are comforted by the knowledge that he is in a much better place now.
Mr. Barrow was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel & Emma Davis Barrow, and his brother, George Madison Barrow. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Susan Bell Barrow; their sons & daughters-in-law, Stephen & Delicia Barrow and Hunter & Michelle Barrow; grandchildren, Nate Barrow, Jada Bess, Jordan Bess, and Jenna Bess; sister-in-law, Elaine Barrow; nieces, April Barrow (Dale) Lawrence and Cindy (Mason) Gaston; great-niece, Madison Ann Gaston; great-nephews, Roger Dale Lawrence, Davis Gaston, and Griffin Gaston; and a dear aunt, Sue Maust.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Whiddon, Zach Little, Michael Beggin, Mike Beggin, Johnny Campbell, and Mark Williams.
