James Edward Harris, 82, a resident of Honoraville, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Wetumpka Health & Rehabilitation on Saturday, June 10th, 2023. A graveside service for James will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 13th, in Cool Springs Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM.
James was a take-charge type of man who wanted to handle everything with his own ingenuity. He could often be found around his farm either taking care of his animals, which included everything from goats to cows, chickens, pigs, and horses, or tinkering with one of his many tractors. He basically loved doing anything that kept him outside and productive. He also lovingly tended to his garden that produced a bountiful harvest every year. In what free time he had, he loved engaging in the more social part of his personality by visiting friends around the area and staying in touch with his community at large.
James was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tammany Lowe; parents, Elbert & Lessie Mae Sexton Harris; and siblings, Jane Harris, Jimmy Harris, Wilson Harris, Gene Harris, Bonnie Posey, and Kenneth "Bear" Harris. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Grace Frazier Harris; their children, Edward (Paula) Harris and Mary (Adam) Ryals; grandchildren, Amanda Shirley, Bobby Fuller, Zach Defee, and Keely Defee; brother, Robert Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Carl Moseley, David Moseley, Austin Moseley, Terry Harris, Kevin Posey, and Joey Godwin.
