James "Jimmy/Doc" Ray Holliday, Sr, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 in Bay Minette, Alabama. A graveside service for Jimmy will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 8th, in Petrey Cemetery with Rev. Darryl Roberts officiating, Charlie Sport delivering the eulogy, and Turners Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
Jimmy Holliday was born in Petrey, Alabama on May 14, 1933 to Ray and Louise Petrey Holliday and graduated from Highland Home High School in 1952. He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force and retired honorably from the USAF after serving over 20 years. He served during the difficult days of the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, as well as a stint in Turkey. The rest of his duties were in North America as he was stationed close to home at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, as well as at Key West, Florida, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Ottawa, Canada.
Jimmy was a long-time member of Glenwood Methodist Church. He was also an avid golfer and played on golf courses around the world. Jimmy was a member of the Chicken Shack Coffee Club, where it was guaranteed he would learn everything he needed to know about what was going on around Luverne! He was also a gregarious person who loved spending time with family and friends, a faithful son, a good father, and a loving husband. Words cannot express how much he meant to his family and friends, nor how much he will be missed by all of them.
Jimmy is survived by: his wife, Mary Lynn Holliday; children, James "Doc/Jimbo" Holliday, Scott Holliday, and Shannon Lynn (Pedro Mayor) Holliday; grandchildren, Bill Holliday, Michael Holliday, Garrett Holliday, Becker Mayor, Brooke Motes, Meghan Holliday, and Anna Louise Mayor; great-grandchildren, Chase Motes, Daniel Holliday, Maddy Holliday, Landon Holliday, Hope Whitehead (Richard), Hayden Holliday, Kinlee Grace Motes, and Maddy Holliday; great-great-grandchild, Whitley Rae Whitehead; stepchildren, Frances (Sam) Johnston, Cleg (Joy) Bender, Beth (Bruce) Sanders; step-grandchildren, Levi Dunagan, Emory Wicks, Abby Johnston, Walt Johnston, Cole Bender, Brooke Bender, Luke Sanders, Mary Beth Sanders, and Nick Sanders; and step-great-grandchild: Wynn Wicks.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Glenwood Methodist Church, P.O. Box 53, Glenwood, Alabama 36034.
