Mr. James Curtis Holmes, 74, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022. Funeral services for Mr. Holmes will be held at 2 PM on Monday, October 17th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Penn officiating. He will then be laid to rest beside his wife in Bullock Community Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday for one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Holmes was a great lover of the outdoors, which meant he thoroughly enjoyed his lifelong occupation in the logging business. In his free time, there were few things he enjoyed more than taking his boat out on the lake. He was even known to hop on a pair of waterskis in his younger days. Mr. Holmes had a truly humble personality and was always generous to a fault with everyone he met who was in need. He was also a devout Christian who loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. He was an avid coffee lover as well, always starting and ending his days with a cup of his favorite brew. In the evenings you could find him relaxing in front of the TV as he watched beloved old Westerns. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle who cherished his family above all the riches on Earth. Words cannot express how much he will be missed, but his family will find comfort in knowing he is now happy and whole in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia Horne Holmes; parents, Caney & Liller Wicker Holmes; and siblings, Dorothy Crowe, Christine Hurley, Mary Furr, Hayward Holmes, and Ray Holmes. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Curtis & Teresia Holmes; sisters, Annie Scott, and Betty Walker; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Ray McAlisters, Raymond Blaisdell, Jesse Dempsey, Dewey Crowe, Danny Killingsworth, and Auston Brown.
