MORGAN, Mr. James Richard, 85, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. Funeral services for Mr. Morgan will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 11, at the First Baptist Church of Luverne with Rev. Clay Crum officiating. Interment will follow in Brantley Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mr. Morgan proudly served with the United States Air Force, and was a co-owner of the Luverne Journal for almost 70 years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Marie Harris Morgan; his parents, P.C. and Florie Richards Morgan; two sisters, Ramona King and Lillie Frances Brown; and five brothers, Sig Morgan, Robert “Brother” Morgan, Judge Morgan, Walker Morgan, and Tab Morgan. Mr. Morgan is survived by his three children, Carol (Tim) Jackson, Jimmy (Cindy) Morgan, and Elizabeth (Jarrett) Flint; eight grandchildren, Timothy Jackson, Michael Jackson, Isabella Jackson, James Richard “Trey” (Mallory) Morgan III, Emily (Jonathan) Smith, Alex King, Morgan King, and Matthew Flint; and three great-grandchildren, Caroline Smith, Charlotte Smith, and Cooper Morgan with a fourth great-grandchild due in January. Active pallbearers will be Timothy Jackson, Michael Jackson, Trey Morgan, Alex King, Morgan King, and Matthew Flint. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Crenshaw Christian Academy, 608 Country Club Drive, Luverne, Alabama 36049, or to one’s favorite charity. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:30 - 11 AM.
