James Ronald
Odum
February 1, 1955 – May 13, 2026
James Ronald "Ronnie" Odum, age 71, of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on May 13, 2026.
Born on February 1, 1955, Ronnie was a lifelong resident of Luverne and spent his entire life on the Odum family homestead-a place he loved deeply and proudly called home. A quiet, kind-hearted man with a strong independent spirit, Ronnie embodied the rural Alabama way of life. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed the simple pleasures of country living, and had a bit of a cowboy spirit about him.
Ronnie retired from a long career in the concrete industry, where he worked faithfully for many years. When he wasn't working, he could often be found doing what he loved most-fishing, turkey hunting, spending time outdoors, or adding to his collection of knives and firearms. He had a special love for animals and always kept a variety of pets and farm animals that he cared for over the years.
Ronnie had been attending Rock Hill Church of Christ, where he enjoyed spending time with his church family and the fellowship he found there.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kendrick Odum; his mother, Lillie Eugenia Odum; his brother, Kenneth Odum; and his wives from previous marriages, Jean Odum and Phyllis B. Odum.
He is survived by his nephew, Stephen Odum of Braselton, Georgia; his nephew, Joey Powell of Santa Rosa, Florida; his sister-in-law, Janice Adkison of Luverne, Alabama; his great-nephews, Aiden Powell and Scott Odum; and his great-nieces, Tristen Powell, Caroline Rainey, Beth Odum-Walker, and Olive Odum.
Ronnie will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle heart, steadfast nature, and love for the land, animals, and people who were part of his life. He lived simply, worked hard, and found joy in the outdoors and in the place he called home.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at a later date.
