James "Jimmy" Taylor

July 4, 1934 — August 5, 2021

Rutledge

Mr. James "Jimmy" Howell Taylor, 87, a resident of Rutledge, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, August 5, 2021. Funeral services for Mr. Taylor will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 7th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Brother Clay Crum officiating. Interment will follow in Rutledge Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Taylor proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service, Mr. Taylor returned home to Crenshaw County where he proceeded to enjoy several occupations over the course of his life, including as a truck driver, farmer, and bus driver for Crenshaw County Schools. He truly exemplified what it means to be a dedicated worker as he never took to any hobbies or interests, he always preferred to keep himself, and others, busy in an industrious manner. He truly had a heart of gold, however, and was well known for always being willing to extend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, without any expectations attached. He was also quite gregarious and easy to talk to, and he was never shy when it came to offering his advice to anyone he thought needed it. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family more than words can properly express. He always made them feel special and loved beyond measure, and will be deeply missed by all of them.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his father, Howell Taylor; mother, Myrtle Copeland Davis; sister, Dorothy Taylor Hood; and best friend, Hugh Bagents. He is survived by his loving wife 63 years, Ann Stephenson Taylor; their children, Wanda (Mack) Williams, Danny (Angie) Taylor, and Stevie (Windy) Taylor; grandchildren, Shelly (Bill) Hughes, Haley (Travis) Boyd, Brianna Taylor, Morgan (Michael Jay) Norman, Bailey Taylor, Abbey Taylor (Hunter DeVoss), Austin Taylor, and Wes Taylor; great-grandchildren, Blakely Boyd, Henley Boyd, Charlee Kate Boyd, Harper Taylor, Parker Hughes, Hunt Hughes, and River James DeVoss, who will be arriving very soon; siblings, Billie Ann McLeod, Pat Tatom (Donnie Drinkard), and Judy Bryant; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Wes Taylor, Austin Taylor, Travis Boyd, Hunter DeVoss, Kyle Rhodes, and Michael Jay Norman.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 - 11 AM.
