Mrs. Jean Hood Holladay, 95, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Saturday, August 1, 2020. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 3rd, in Darien Cemetery with Rev. Malcom Butts officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mrs. Holladay devoted much of her life to caring for others, from raising her family to working as a dietary technician at the local hospital. She was also a dedicated member of Brantley Baptist Church, where she diligently served her Lord and Savior along with her church family. Known to so many as “Granny” or “Lil Granny,” in her free time, Mrs. Holladay loved gospel music, quilting, cooking, and hosting old-fashioned fellowships in her home. Ultimately, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who cherished her family above all else. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Holladay was preceded in death by her husband, George I. Holladay; their son, Charles C. Holladay; son-in-law, Aaron Lavon Flowers; parents, Sam & Maude Estell Turner Hood; and six siblings, Foster Hood, Sam Hood Jr, Zora Lee Hood, Estell Couch, Lena Grayson Cole, and Sybil Burdick.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda S. and Danny Spears; eight grandchildren, Jason Flowers, Justin (Leslie) Flowers, Michael (Debbie) Holladay, Melissa (Charlie) Thompson, Jennifer Kraft, Drew (Chetney) Spears, Daniel (Michele) Spears, and David (Karina) Spears; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Toomey; and numerous nieces & nephews.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made the Darien Cemetery Fund, ℅ Anita West, 509 New Harmony Church Road, Luverne, Alabama 36049.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Holladay, Jason Flowers, Justin Flowers, and Caden Flowers.
