Troy

Jean Moody Sasser, 82, of Troy, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 10, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Wilkes and Rev. Greg Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at Luverne Emmaus Cemetery, with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Jean was a proud member of the Luverne High School Class of 1960 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Troy State Teacher's College in 1963. She spent her career as a dedicated second-grade teacher, beginning at Davis Elementary in Montgomery, moving to East Three Notch Elementary in Andalusia, and then spending 29 years at Goshen Elementary School. Jean completed her 37-year career with a final year at Pike Liberal Arts before retiring. She found her true calling in teaching, providing a loving and supportive environment where children could thrive. Her legacy as an educator is one that will not be forgotten.

Jean was deeply devoted to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and exemplified the strength of a true Christian woman. Her servant's heart inspired everyone around her. For more than 50 years, she was a faithful member of Bush Memorial Baptist Church in Troy, where she played the organ, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and supported the Women's Ministry. Later, she served at Northside Baptist Church for many years as an interim pianist. Jean also spent many years volunteering as a weekly visitor at the nursing home in Troy and the Troy Manor Apartments, where she played the piano and led worship services for those unable to attend church. She was also the former president of the Pike County Retired Teacher's Association.

Known for her selflessness and generosity, Jean was devoted to improving her community. She always put others before herself, ensuring that everyone was cared for, regardless of her own circumstances. Her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and unwavering kindness made her a gift to all who knew her. Above all, Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother ("Gigi"), and friend. Her family and friends considered themselves truly blessed to have her in their lives. She supported her loved ones in every endeavor offering unconditional love. Words cannot fully capture the depth of her remarkable character or the significance of her loss, but her family finds comfort in the cherished memories she leaves behind. Above all, they take peace knowing she is now with her beloved Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John & Lillie Norman Moody, and her brother, Mike Moody. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Don Sasser; sons, Scott Sasser and Chris (Kim) Sasser; granddaughters, Hailey and Peyton Sasser; special friends, the Sullivan Family and Lylah McConnell; and many cherished family members and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Stallion Sasser, Stetson Sasser, Sterling Sasser, Terry Moody, Mark Sullivan, and Robin Sullivan.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Compassus Hospice of Troy for their compassionate care during this difficult time. The family request memorial donations be made to Compassus Hospice of Troy.
