Jeanette Wells Pettus, 88, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Wednesday, June 12th, 2024. A celebration of Jeanette's life will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, June 23th, at Letohatchee Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church for 30 minutes prior to the service.
Jeanette was definitely the kind of one-of-a-kind personality that you will not soon forget. She spent most of her professional career at what is now Crenshaw Community Hospital. What was her job? Pretty much everything! Her co-workers fondly remember there wasn't a single task or department she wasn't willing to roll up her sleeves and get to work on or with. Plus, she considered it her mission in life to take care of and help people, whether they were her patients, their families, or her co-workers. If you had a problem, Jeanette was going to be there to lend a sympathetic ear and shoulder...or she would find a way to make you laugh when you needed it the most. That kind of camaraderie in the workplace is a rare gift, which is why she is indeed so fondly remembered by all of them.
Jeanette was extremely outgoing because she loved people so dearly. Her fiesty, spunky spirit meant that you were pretty much always guaranteed to have a good time when she was around. While she enjoyed the time she spent with others, there was no one she'd rather be with than her daughter and her family, and, if you spent any time around her, I can bet you heard a few stories about the family she cherished with all of her heart. They certainly always had a wonderful time when they were together and have a treasure trove of cherished memories built up on the years. And so many of those memories are full of laughter and fun, from family vacations to how her grandsons came to call her "Gonette" after hearing how often everyone in the car urged her to "Go, 'Nette!" while she was driving. Above all, Jeanette was a much beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who is missed more than words could possibly express, but they are comforted by the knowledge that she is now receiving her heavenly reward.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her stepson, Milton Monroe Pettus; parents, Wiley Thomas & Effie Jones Wells; and brother, Thomas Wayne Wells. She is survived by her beloved daughter & son-in-law, Dianne & Marty Russell; grandsons, David Brett (Shannon) Hollingshead and Dustin Wayne Hollingshead; great-grandchildren, Mac, Walker, Parker, and Ridge Hollingshead; nephews, Craig (Brenda) Wells and Cliff Wells; and special stepdaughters, Susan (Thomas) Schexnayder and Daisy Pettus.
