Mr. Jimmy Wayne Defee, 77, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, May 24, 2021. A graveside service for Mr. Defee will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 26th, in Rutledge Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Jones officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Defee spent 45 years driving a truck both locally and cross-country. He travelled the length and breadth of the United States and even into Canada during those years, and various members of his family occasionally joined him on those trips. At home, he still loved to ride, especially down old back roads while sharing his stories about the good old days. His family meant absolutely everything to him. He adored his wife who was the love of his life, as well as their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His great-grands were the closest to his heart, and they definitely knew that. There were few things he enjoyed more than the simple joy of sitting on his porch while he watched them running around and playing, and his faithful canine companion, Marly, was usually by his side as they sat in perfect contentment.
Mr. Defee was preceded in death by his two sons, Michael & Gary Dale Defee; his parents, Vernon & Cuba Wicker Defee; and four siblings, Joe Defee, Dale Defee, Doug Defee, and Helen Wolfe. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Alice Hall Defee; their two daughters, Lisa Smith and Regina (Chuck) Gorey; fifteen grandchildren, Wesley Hall, Jared Hall, Sydnie Smith Hataway, Bradley Gorey, Ashley Gorey, Chad Gorey, Cameron Gorey, April Simmons, Lacey Chandler, Johnthan Defee, Preston Bell, Brandon Defee, Jason Defee, Nuby Defee, and Brittney Jordan; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Wesley Hall, Jared Hall, Bradley Gorey, Johnthan Defee, Preston Bell, Brandon Defee, Jason Defee, and Nuby Defee.
