Jo Ann Sipper

April 13, 1949 — June 3, 2023

Luverne

Jo Ann Sipper, 74, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 while surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services for Jo Ann will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 7th, at Centenary Assembly of God with Rev. Ervin C. Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.

Jo Ann was truly warmth personified. You would be pressed to find anyone as kind and empathetic as she was with everyone she knew. Her home radiating with her thoughtfulness and Christian love and charity. She was everything a good Christian woman was supposed to be and prided herself on being someone her family and friends could turn to when they faced the slings and arrows of life. She was a joy to be around no matter who you were because she never really met a stranger and always had a smile on her face. Jo Ann had a remarkable gift at putting people at ease and making them feel seen; however, she was always forthright and honest with them as well. She valued those qualities and had no qualms about sharing her opinion when asked, so you might want to be sure you really wanted to know before you did!.

In her free time, Jo Ann basked in the sunlight while she tenderly cared for her beloved garden. As always, her first impulse was to share that bounty with the ones she loved, so she was constantly delivering her fresh vegetables to family and friends. A comfort to many and a joy to all, Jo Ann was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church, and community with all that she had. She was proud to be a member of Centenary Assembly of God for over 50 years and cherished every member of her church family there. Above all, however, her greatest treasure on earth was her family. She raised two fine sons, which resulted in the job that she loved the best, that of "Nana" to their children and grandchildren. She has left them with an abundance of cherished memories that they have made together over the years, from family vacations to special holidays and occasions. Though she will be missed beyond measure, her loved ones will find comfort not only in those memories that will live on through them, but also in the knowledge that she is now safely ensconced in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Ray & Bessie Flournoy Burgans, and sisters, Pearl Hodge and Laura Tatum. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Charles Philip Sipper; their sons & daughters-in-law, Steven & Mieke Sipper and Tim & Cindy Sipper; grandchildren, Matthew (Lacey) Sipper, Laken (Tyler) Best, Nikki Sipper, and Savannah (Gunner) Wise; great-grandchildren, Emilee Sipper, Tucker Best, Lorali Sipper, Ridge Best, and Jake Wise; siblings, Danny Burgans, Mary McGough, and Kenny Burgans; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Active pallbearers will be Matthew Sipper, Tyler Best, Gunner Wise, Randall Lowe, Michael Odom, and Rome Odom. Honorary pallbearers will be Emilee Sipper, Tucker Best, Lorali Sipper, and Ridge Best.
