Joe D. Noble, 82, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away in his home on Saturday, September 30th, 2023. Funeral services for Joe will be held at 2 PM on Monday, October 2nd, at Luverne Church of Christ with Brothers Stae Sanders and Ed Rezach officiating. Interment will follow in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 12:30 - 2 PM.

You couldn't spend much time in Joe's company without laughing, and you were more likely than not going to laugh until you broke out in tears! He had a quiet demeanor, but that only masked a marvelous sense of humor. He loved to tease people, just to make them smile or laugh. The stories that could leave you on the floor in stitches are legion, from going to extraordinary lengths to keep the cloth seats in his truck from getting wet to needing his hands to believe that his eyes deceived him! You just couldn't not laugh at his forthright demeanor and sly humor. Joe was just a character and that endeared him to everyone who knew him. To know him was to love him, mainly for his big heart and love for his fellow man.

Joe met the love of his life in his youth when Frances happened to walk in the Piggly Wiggly in Luverne where he worked as a young man, and they raised three wonderful children together. He spent most of his working career working for Pepsi of Luverne or the local propane company, which means he knew just about everybody. He was a very self-sufficient and self-reliant man who truly believed in the value of hard work. He never demanded more from anyone else than he was willing to do himself, and, if you didn't manage to get the job done right the first time, you could definitely do it again until the job was done. As hard as Joe worked during his lifetime, he thoroughly enjoyed every second of his retirement. "Granddaddy" wasn't built for being a homebody. If you wanted to go somewhere, it was a safe bet that he was ready, willing, and able to go because he always had "my going britches on"! And he and Frances definitely used their retirement to go. They traveled up and down the East Coast during that time from Pennsylvania to Illinois and as far west as Louisiana.

There were few things Joe loved more than spending time with his family at the Alabama River, especially when it came to the thrill of boat rides. He also loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing over the years. He was a lifetime member of Luverne Church of Christ and was beloved by his church family there. When it came to Old Westerns, there was no one he enjoyed watching more than John Wayne and "East Clintwood"! If only John Wayne had known that Joe was right there swinging his fists with him, he'd have been assured that he would never lose a fight! Nothing beats the story of the time Joe got to "meet" his idol in all of his waxed glory at a wax museum in Tennessee. He was more excited by that experience than any kid has ever been on Christmas morning. Basically, you were guaranteed to have a fun time when you went anywhere with Joe, and would likely have a few great stories to boot. Above all, however, Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who adored his family as his greatest treasure on earth. He was not just the patriarch of his family, but the rock their foundation was built on. He meant the worlds to every single one of them and words cannot express how much he will be missed by all of them. However, they will find comfort not only in the memories he leaves behind, but the knowledge that he is now healthy and whole in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, William Glenn & Louise Spurlock Noble. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Frances Nichols Noble; their children, David (LaNora) Noble, Mary (Lavon) Bees, and Barbara Noble; grandchildren, Jason (Leah) Noble, Danielle (Chris) Kelley, Shelton Higgins, and Shawn Higgins; and great-granddaughter, Renleigh Marie Kelley.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Noble, Lavon Bees, Jason Pearce, Jonathan Lindley, Chris Kelley, and Donald Hilburn.
