Joe Bradley Petrey Sr

Mr. Joe B. Petrey Sr, 68, a resident of Dauphin Island, Alabama and formerly of Petrey, passed away unexpectedly at Springhill Medical Center in Mobile, Alabama on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Funeral services for Mr. Petrey will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 9th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Wolff officiating. Interment will follow in Petrey Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Petrey was a proud graduate of Luverne High School as well as the University of Alabama, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He started working as a CPA in 1986 and continued helping people with their taxes even after his retirement. Mr. Petrey had a generous heart which showed in all of his charity work, including Emmaus Community, Kairos Prison Ministry, and Feed the Need Ministry in Dauphin Island as well as Cooking for Christ in Tuscaloosa. He was also a faithful, active member of the Dauphin Island Methodist Church. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh, and he enjoyed saltwater fishing in his retirement.. He was also a devoted alumnus of Alabama and cheered on their football team to many a national championship. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather who adored his family more than anything else in his life. Those he leaves behind will always cherish the lifetime of memories they made together.

Mr. Petrey was preceded in death by his daughter, Melony Petersen; parents, Loyce & Susie Bradley Petrey; and three siblings, Lawrence (Margaret) Petrey, Curtis Petrey, and Annie Loyce (Walt) Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Cheryl R. Petrey; three children, Loyce (Christy) Petrey, Julie Petrey, and Bradley (Whitney) Petrey; son-in-law, Gavin Petersen; five grandchildren, Luke Petrey, Bryant Petrey, Devin Petersen, Faith Petersen, and Judah Petrey; great-grandchild, Trenton Petersen; brother, John Walter (Betty) Petrey; sister-in-law, Nancy Petrey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Luke Petrey, Bryant Petrey, William Petrey, Perry Petrey, Jim Petrey, and Bert Petrey. Ray Richburg and Gavin Petersen will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Dauphin Island Methodist Church, 302 Key Street, Dauphin Island, Alabama 36528. They will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10 - 11 AM.
