John Alan Jones

May 12, 1951 — October 30, 2025

John Alan Jones, 74, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away at Baptist Medical Center East on Thursday, October 30th, 2025. Funeral services for John will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, November 1st, at Camp Ground Methodist Church with Rev. Dunford Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Camp Ground Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 31st, from 6 to 8 PM.

It would be an understatement to say John was proud member of the Class of 1969 from Luverne High School. You definitely weren't going to find any greater hype man for their class as he never missed an opportunity to get together with his classmates thanks to their lifelong friendships. After high school, John attended the Alabama Institute of Aviation Technology where he earned his A & P certifications. A licensed pilot, John spent 25 years working as an aircraft mechanic before he retired for his dream job, that of a farmer. Truly, there was nothing else John enjoyed more than the life of a farmer. No surprise that this man who craved the simple pleasures in life would enjoy just the beauty of time with nature and being outside. Whether it was hunting and fishing, collecting arrowheads, or just time on his front porch listening to his favorite music from Pandora as he looked for the squirrels and hummingbirds in his yard, as long as he was outdoors, John was happy. He had also been a member of Camp Ground Methodist Church since 1978 and had held every office/position within the church during his time there, though choir leader was definitely his favorite of all of them.

There wasn't anyone with a more welcoming personality than John Alan Jones! He was always happy to see you, especially if you brought any interesting "news" to discuss with him. At home he loved tinkering in his shop since he was so mechanically-inclined or reading up on any American history he was currently interested in. He was also extremely family-oriented. He knew how fortunate he was to have the wonderful family he created with the love of his wife, Billie Gayle, and never once took it for granted. His door was always open to any of them, night or day, and they certainly always appreciated his special and entertaining wit. For them, he was the best friend you could ever hope to have and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In fact, there was no prouder title in his world than that of "Big Daddy" to his beloved grandchildren (even if he violated the grandparents' rule by picking his own name!). Lord knows they all loved him just as much as he did them. He was the foundation of their family and their world and some of their fondest memories will always be of their Big Daddy just sitting on the front porch with his "BB" (Billie) by his side.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Gaylord & Avonell Patterson Jones; brothers-in-law, Royce Stroud, Horace Paul Bozeman, Stevie Owens, Donald Thomas, and Jimmy Shaver; sisters-in-law, Doris Thomas & Anne Carr; and nephew, Brian Stroud. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Billie Carr Jones; sons & daughters-in-law, Danny & Brandy Jones and Tyler & Courtney Jones; grandchildren, Savannah (Aubrey) Grace, Max Jones, Lily Jones, Sadie Jones, and Eli Jones; sister, Jane Stroud; brother-in-law, John A.
