John Reddoch Athey

March 6, 1947 — December 22, 2016

ATHEY, Dr. John Reddoch passed away on December 22 at his home in Flagler Beach, Florida at age 69. Funeral services will be held at Ramer Methodist Church, Ramer, AL on Wednesday, December 28 at 2pm. Visitation will be from 1-2pm at the church. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Dr. Athey is survived by his wife, Denise Manzolillo of Flagler Beach, two sons, Bryan Whitfield Athey of Altamonte Springs, FL and John Crispin Athey of Alexandria, VA, and his grandson, Jacob Athey of Altamone Springs, FL. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Athey of Grady, his sister, Anne Athey Payne of Montgomery, and his brothers, Thomas Whitfield Athey III of Brookesville, MD and Charles Athey of Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Athey attended Montgomery County High School and graduated from Auburn University Veterinary School of Medicine, graduating number one in his class. He had a small animal practice in Central Florida for over 40 years, and provided veterinary services at the Sanford Zoo for several years. He adapted several surgical techniques that had been newly developed in human surgery for use in animal surgery. He devoted his life to providing compassionate, quality care to all animals in his care. In lieu of flowers, his wife requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or an animal organization of your choice.
