John Webster Brunson

Mr. John Webster Brunson Sr, 83, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019. A funeral service for Mr. Brunson will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 22, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Yawn officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Brunson was a graduate of Luverne High School and Troy State University. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy onboard the USS Wisconsin during the Korean Conflict. He married the love of his life, Barbara Lynn Mims, on December 24, 1957. He went on to work with NASA during the Saturn, Apollo, and Space Shuttle era. He was awarded the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal and the Silver Snoopy, plus he holds several NASA patents. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, sailing, fishing, and computer programming. He loved his family and friends with all his heart, and was so loved in return. He was the first to lend a helping hand, and he thrived in being challenged. He will be lovingly remembered for his humor, dancing, and, above all, for his unending devotion to his beloved wife, Bobbie.

Mr. Brunson was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Wright Sr and Betty Ruth Brunson, and his three siblings, Eugene Wright Brunson Jr, Elizabeth Brunson Mills, and Carolyn Brunson Lowe. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Mims Brunson; their two children, John Webster (Joan) Brunson Jr and Lynn Brunson (Ricky) Nichols; five grandchildren, Christina Brunson (Chris) Kennedy, Jill Brunson (Ryan) Boehme, Samantha Hill (Andrew) Elliott, John Michael (Kimber) Hill, and Libby Brunson (Chris) Shindorf; six great-grandchildren, Jaden Dale Dalton, William Colt Elliott, Austin Wyatt Kennedy, Eli Morgan Kennedy, Cooper Ray Boehme, and John Luke Boehme; and three nieces, Sharon Lowe Venable, Donna Mills (Lamar) Davis, and Marsha Elizabeth Mills.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10 - 11 AM.
