KILPATRICK, Mr. John C. “Pop,” 88, a lifelong resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018. Funeral services for Mr. Kilpatrick will be at 10 AM on Friday, October 26, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Crum officiating. Interment will follow in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mr. Kilpatrick proudly served his country with the United States Army in the 9th Airborne Rangers during the Korean Conflict. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Mr. Kilpatrick was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Nicholas and Sarah Grace Kilpatrick; parents, George Washington and Lois Pate Kilpatrick; and his brother, J.G. Kilpatrick. He is survived by his six children, Pat (Jim) McAfee, Kim (Gary) Johnson, Michael (Lisa) Kilpatrick, John (Sandra) Kilpatrick, Jody (Lynn) Kilpatrick, and Amanda (Kevin) Messick; fourteen grandchildren, Nikki Kilpatrick Hilburn, Michael Ray (Katelyn) Kilpatrick, Brandon Johnson, Heath Brown, Chad Kilpatrick, Madison Johnson, John Randall Oswald, Lisanna Kilpatrick, Ashlynn Kilpatrick, Blaine Oswald, Kaylee Messick, Lizzy Kilpatrick, Anna Messick, and Aiden Messick; six great-grandchildren, Natalee Jane Hilburn, Charlee Ann Boylan, Mikey Kilpatrick, John Allen Hilburn, Max Kilpatrick, and Alex Ray Kilpatrick; sister, Jane Kauffmann; uncle, George (Bertie) Pate; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Ray Kilpatrick, Brandon Johnson, Heath Brown, Chad Kilpatrick, John Randall Oswald, and Blaine Oswald. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and love to Pop’s wonderful caregivers and the staff of Kindred Hospice. In lieu of flowers, they request that memorial donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, First Baptist Church of Luverne, or one’s favorite charity. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 9 - 10 AM.
