Joseph Dewayne Fussell

February 17, 1946 — March 29, 2025

Greenville

Joseph Dewayne Fussell, 79, a lifelong resident of Greenville, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, March 29th, 2025, while surrounded by his family. A celebration of Joe's life has not been scheduled at this time.

Joe was born and raised in Greenville and enjoyed spending his life as a member of the community there. He was proud of his thriving career in sales for over 35 years. No surprise that he did so well with his career given how easygoing and laidback he was. His jovial nature gave him an easy charm with everyone he came across and his ample patience and good nature meant he wasn't easily angered or frustrated by even the most difficult of customers!

As hard as he worked, Joe had just as much enthusiasm for his years in retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed the extra time to spend with this family, or fishing, but there wasn't anything he loved as much as getting to travel and see other places with the love of his life, his beloved wife Nobie. Above all, Joe was a devoted husband, father, and "Papa" to his cherished grandchildren. Words cannot express how much Joe will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him so well, but comfort will be found in that he has found peace and through the decades of memories of laughter and, most importantly, love.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Winifred Wilson & Ethyl Miller Fussell; brother & sister-in-law, Winston Alvin & Dovie King Fussell; parents-in-law, Marvin & Myrtle Cauthen; and sister-in-law, Shirley Bracken. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nobie Cauthen Fussell; their daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer & Rawl Barksdale; grandsons, Sam Osenton & Will Osenton; brother, Charles Fussell; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of SouthernCare Hospice of Greenville, especially Jordan Sexton, for their wonderful help and compassionate care.
