Joyce Golden Messick

Mrs. Joyce Golden Messick, 98, a resident of Hope Hull, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022. A graveside service for Joyce will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 6th, in Darien Cemetery with Rev. Gary Burton officiating and Turners Funeral Home directing. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time.

Joyce was a strong and independent woman who knew her own mind and was quite capable of handling anything life could throw at her. She was a gregarious person who simply loved spending time with family and friends. Joyce spent many years of her working career in retail before moving on to work as a bookkeeper for a sprinkler installation company. In her free time, she loved few things more than looking after her family, especially any occasion when she could whip up a spectacular meal for them. She also enjoyed spending time outside while tending to her beloved flowerbeds so that they would blossom beautifully every year. Joyce was also a longtime member of Pintlala Baptist Church and always cherished her time spent with her church family there. Above all, she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who treasured her family above all else.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Willie B. Messick; parents, Miles & Florence Stevenson Golden; and brother, Alton Golden. She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Jimmy & Carol Messick; grandchildren, Kimberly (Greg) O'Connor, Jimmy (Vonda) Messick Jr, and Wesley (Amber) Messick; great-grandchildren, Patrick O'Connor, Austin Messick, Amianne (Raymond) Reid, Abigail (Landon) Harbison, Clayton Messick, and Chase Messick; great-great-grandchildren, Raelyn Reid, Raymond Reid V, and Charlotte Grace Harbison; and sister, Carolyn Wilson.

Active pallbearers will be Greg O'Connor, Jimmy Messick Jr, Wesley Messick, Patrick O'Connor, Austin Messick, Raymond Reid, Landon Harbison, and Chase Messick.
