Judy Duncan Cartwright, 74, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Monday, October 12th, 2026, at Jackson Hospital. Funeral services for Judy will be held at 11 AM on Friday, October 16th, at Rock Hill Church of Christ with Brother Danny Rolling officiating. She will then be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the church cemetery there. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service.
Judy was born on October 9, 1952, and she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was filled with faith, laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. She was a woman with a heart of gold, a strong spirit, and a personality all her own. She was loving, funny, outspoken, and, as her family would affectionately say, a little stubborn. She was never afraid to speak her mind or tell you exactly how she felt. Yet behind that strong personality was a compassionate and caring heart. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, care for someone in need, and do whatever she could for others.
Judy was a member of Rock Hill Church of Christ, where her Christian faith was an important part of her life. She believed in the Lord and often spoke of being ready when He called her home. Her faith remained a source of comfort, and her family finds peace in knowing that she is no longer suffering. Judy worked at Russell Sewing Factory before retiring. She enjoyed life's simple pleasures, especially visiting flea markets and yard sales in search of hidden treasures. She loved the excitement of discovering something special that others might have overlooked. Whether it was a bargain, a unique find, or something she simply couldn't leave behind, Judy always enjoyed the thrill of the hunt. Above all, Judy will be remembered for her love for her family and her willingness to help others. She could make you laugh, tell you exactly what was on her mind, and still be the first person to stand beside you when life became difficult. Her strong will, generous heart, and unforgettable sense of humor made her truly one of a kind.
Although her family will deeply miss her presence, they take comfort in their faith and the precious memories she leaves behind. Judy spent much of her life searching for hidden treasures, but to those who knew and loved her, she was one of life's greatest treasures. Her laughter, her words of wisdom, her strong personality, and her acts of kindness will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones. Forever loved, forever cherished, and forever remembered.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Clifford "Buck" Cartwright; great-grandson, Philip Jordan Duncan; parents, James Duncan and Bessie Brunese Owens Duncan; and siblings, James Harold Duncan, Kenneth Duncan, Bessie Frazier, Barbara Frazier, Alma Pruitt, and Linda Joiner;
She is survived by her children, Stacey (Andy) Buchanan, Derek (Heather) Cartwright, and Jason Bryan Cartwright; grandchildren, Austin (Danielle) Smith, Tyler (Madison) Duncan, Mary Elizabeth Buchanan, Ethan Headley, Tyler Buchanan, Slade Cartwright, and Hunter Cartwright; great-grandchildren, Kyra, Emma, Jackson, Lincoln, Saban, Gray, Reign, & Serenity Smith, and Bentley Duncan; siblings, Joe Ray Owens, Robert (Renee) Duncan, Phyllis Oliver, and Gail Duncan; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (DeWayne) Seay and Carolyn Maddox; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
