Justice Dink "Buddy" Smyth Jr

SMYTH, Justice Dink “Buddy”, Jr., 91, a resident of Luverne , Alabama passed away after a brief illness on March 12, 2020.  Mr. Smyth was preceded in death by the love of his life, Margaret W. “Peggy” Smyth, to whom he was married for 57 years and a son, Justice D. Smyth, III.

He is survived by three children, Mark T. Smyth, David H. Smyth (Becky) and Richard R. Smyth (Kathy), all of Luverne ; six grandchildren, Justice Smyth (Morgan) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Jeff Smyth (Robin) of Carrollton, GA, Ryan Gibson (Deanna) of Gallatin, TN, Suzanne Green (Mitch) of Troy, AL, Courtney Davis (Hue) of Troy, AL, Rann Smyth of Troy, AL,  four great grandchildren, Francie Smyth, Olivia Gibson, Maddox Gibson and Caroline Green.

Mr. Smyth was preceded in death by his parents, Justice Dink Smyth and Dewey H. Smyth, and his sister, Helen S. Vaughan.

Mr. Smyth was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force.  He was an American Oil Company distributor for over 50 years and also sold International Harvester tractors and farming equipment in and around Crenshaw County for many years with the business known as Smyth Hornsby Motor Company.  In 1963, he became the first Datsun (Nissan) automobile dealer in the State of Alabama.  He was a founding member of Crenshaw Christian Academy.

In 1983, at the age of 54 years, he graduated from Jones Law Institute along with his son, Mark, and practiced law in Luverne for many years.   He was a member of First Baptist Church, Luverne , AL.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Lake Haven Assisted Living Facility for the love and support shown Mr. Smyth over the past two years.  Any donations may be made to First Baptist Church or Crenshaw Christian Academy, both of Luverne , AL.    A graveside service will be held on March 14, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Emmaus Cemetery, Luverne , AL. with Bro. Clay Crum officiating and Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.   Active pallbearers will be Mr. Smyth’s three sons and three of his grandsons.
