Karen Price Latham, 51, a resident of Brundidge, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023. Funeral services for Karen will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 7th, at Wise Mill Assembly of God with Pastor Dustin Wisecarver officiating. Interment will follow in Wise Mill Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service.
Karen had an outgoing and lively personality that was practically infectious as she had a gift for always being able to make others smile. She also had an excellent sense of humor which helped her bring so much laughter to the lives of the people she loved. Unlike so many these days, Karen made no apologies for who she was and was the same person no matter where she was or who she was with. Her independent spirit that made her strong-willed and outspoken, but these traits served her well in life as she had no issues looking after herself and taking care of her own business. She was generous, often to a fault, kind, and had a truly forgiving heart...as long as you hadn't messed with her babies. Karen was the definitive "mama bear," you see, and there was nothing she wouldn't do for her children. They thrived under the fierceness of her love and protection, and they cherished every single moment they had together.
There were few things Karen loved more than hopping on her Harley and letting the road lead where it may. She was also an excellent shot and enjoyed heading to the range or a country field to work on her skills. At home, she could often be found in the company of her beloved English bulldog, Daisy, who she absolutely did NOT spoil rotten! Karen also had a softer side that loved expressing her creative side through writing moving, heartfelt poetry (not an easy skill to master, I assure you). She had a thoroughly eclectic taste in music and could never pinpoint a favorite. Mainly, she just wanted a good beat to dance to. In her view, life was just too unbearably short not to wring every bit of joy and vitality out of it, so if she wanted to dance in her kitchen, she was going to!
Her family felt blessed that she was also a wiz in the kitchen. There wasn't a dish she tried to make that she couldn't, but her skills truly shined when it came to her baking. Ask any friend or family member what her best dish was and you'd get a different answer every time, but they almost all expressed a particular fondness for her peanut butter cake and cat's head biscuits. They were unanimous in how absolutely excellent her "Bob Andy Pie" was. What is Bob Andy Pie you may ask, it was actually a family recipe for a lemony custard pie that absolutely melted in your mouth! Obviously, Karen loved nothing as much as she did her family and cherished all the time they were able to spend in each other's company. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt who was simply irreplaceable in the lives of the people she loved. There will never be another Karen and the world is a little dimmer without her here, but her loved ones will keep her alive in their hearts and minds for many more years to come.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Edward Latham, and parents, Alpha Leon & Sybil Gaynell Best Price. She is survived by her beloved children, Amy (Daniel) Stone and Brandon Latham; fiancé, Jody Bass; siblings, Barbara Loudean White, Gary Leon (Lisa) Price, Winona Kaye Gentry, Bobby Monroe (Patricia) Price, Michael Anthony (Wendy) Price, Arkie Jason (Sherry) Price, and Sharon Gaynelle (Lee) Gideon; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends, and her treasured canine companion, Daisy.
Active pallbearers will be Leon Gideon, Dewayne Price, Tony Price, Bobby Price, Malichi McNeil, and Tommy Hutto.
