Katherine Davis Evans

Katherine Davis Evans, 94, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Saturday, March 8th, 2025. Funeral services for Katherine will be held at 2 PM on Friday, March 14th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Brennan Peacock officiating. She will then be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday for one hour prior to the service.

Katherine spent 41 years of dedicated service for the federal government with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) before she retired. Given how detail-oriented she was, along with her gift for organization, they likely still miss her terribly. She was also a longtime member of the Luverne United Methodist Church where she taught children in their Sunday School classes for many years. At home, she prided herself on exploring her more creative side through her expert seamstress skills. She also enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden for many, many years, as well as freezing and canning its bountiful harvest.

Katherine was a beloved member of her community and well-known for an independent streak a mile-wide. Not many people can live on their own into their more advanced age, handling their own business and taking care of themselves. Of course, that would come as no surprise to anyone who knew Katherine for long because she was blessed with a very strong-willed, determined, and feisty personality...and that was a large part of what made her so very special to all those who knew and loved her. Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother, as well as a beloved "Granny" to her grandchildren and great-grands. Words cannot express how dearly Katherine was loved by so very many, but there is comfort to be found in the treasure trove of a lifetime of wonderful memories made together.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Evans; parents, Melvin Franklin & Ida Gibson Davis; and brother, Melvin Wilson Davis. She is survived by her loving children, Diane Evans (Vernon) Scott and Michael Marvin (Ursula) Evans; grandchildren, Michael Lane (Christina) Evans, Kayli Evans (Ander) Etxegoien, Laura Leigh (Alex) Churnside, Goodwin Davis Scott, and Franklin Vernon Scott; and great-grandchildren, Isla James, Sullivan, Brooks, Palmer Grace, and Landon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to either the Luverne United Methodist Church, Crenshaw Christian Academy, or one's favorite charity.
