Kathryn "Kay" Davis Goolsby, 76, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at Baptist Medical Center South on Sunday, July 19th, 2026. A graveside service for Kay will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 23rd, in Green Hills Cemetery with Brother Morris May officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:15 to 10:15 AM.

Kay was a proud resident of Crenshaw County and loved being a valued part of her community. She was a member of the Class of 1968 at Luverne High School and then went on to earn her bachelor's degree in business. And she put the degree to good use when she went to work with her brother Billy managing Davis Feed Service. Their deep and enduring sibling bond made working together a true pleasure over the years and made them even closer. Later, she turned to indulging her true passion for flowers by working as a special events florist for 10 years. Whether it was weddings or school & library events, no one could beautify them like Miss Kay! She truly had a special gift for flower arranging because you could truly feel her love and passion for what she did in every stem and placement.

Kay's final role in life was as "KK" to grandchildren who absolutely stole her heart. They were truly her heart and soul, and so began "KK's Daycare"! I mean we all know that the rules never apply to grandchildren and it was no different with KK. She was always the first to volunteer to babysit or go pick them up (with a trip through the drive thru on the way home). And KK never missed an event, from sports to pageants, she was always going to be there to cheer them on......well, she drew the line at football because she didn't want to watch anyone get aggressive with her babies! Oh, and she also found a true love for cooking and experimenting in the kitchen, with Whit usually serving as a her guinea pig for any new recipe or concoction! But those chocolate cakes that had to be made in her specially seasoned pan from 1975? Melt in your mouth scrumptious!! And those lucky grandchildren always had a homemade birthday cake every year thanks to their KK.

Few people were as generous with their time and love as Kay was. She was extremely loving and caring with everyone, and was always gonna be the first to volunteer to help. However, she was always the last one who would ever accept help. Strong-willed and independent to a fault, maybe, but it also made her the amazing woman she was. Kay was truly the kind of down-to-earth Southern lady who never needed to "put on the dog" to impress anyone. She was simply content with everything she had in life. Tending to her treasured flower garden and keeping up her lawn was all she needed. KK's Daycare also became KK's Lawn Service because there were few things Kay loved more than simply cutting the grass and that continued through last week, actually. Above all, she was a devoted wife to the love of her life, Whit, mother to their children, and the best grandmother on earth to those precious grandchildren. They all have a million and one phenomenal memories full of love and laughter to keep her spirit alive in their hearts and minds for many more years to come.

Kay was preceded in death by her beloved grandchildren, Peter Whitfield Goolsby and Christian Willow Goolsby; parents, Willie Ray Jr & Olivia Martin Davis; and sister-in-law, Pat Perdue Davis. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Whit Goolsby; their children, Craig (Sonya) Goolsby, Stephanie (Phillip) Cornett, and Casey (Jessica) Goolsby; grandchildren, Alex (James) Venable, Walt Goolsby, Wyatt Cornett, Olivia Cornett, Wade Cornett, Carter Goolsby, Scarlett Goolsby, and Evie Goolsby; great-granddaughter, Alice Venable; brother, Billy Davis; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Wyatt Cornett, Walt Goolsby, Wes Davis, Wade Cornett, Carter Goolsby, and Kent Robertson.
