Kitty Herndon

Mrs. Margie “Kitty” Wingard Herndon, 87, a lifelong resident of Ramer, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery on Friday, August 28, 2020. A graveside service for Mrs. Herndon will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, August 30th, in Wingard Cemetery with Rev. Parker Bowen officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mrs. Herndon was a well-known fixture of her community as she owned and operated her own salon in the Highland Home/Ramer area for much of her life. There were few things she enjoyed more in life than working to make other people look and feel beautiful. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but those grandchildren and great-grandchildren took up a very special place in her heart. In her free time, she loved cooking for her family, often alongside her husband, plus took tender care of the many flowers in her garden. She was also a dedicated member of Bradleyton Baptist Church, and loved spending time with her church family. Mrs. Herndon lived a long and fruitful life, making the most of her time on this earth, and she leaves behind a treasure-trove of memories for her loved ones to cherish for the remainder of their lives.

Mrs. Herndon was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Herndon; parents, Tom Bob & Romie Sims Wingard; and 14 siblings, including her beloved twin brother, Marvin Wingard. She is survived by her two daughters, Dale (Lane) Simmons and Teresa Bozeman (Wayne Lee); seven grandchildren, Tera Simmons, Amanda Marie Lee, Brandon (Danielle) Simmons, Todd Simmons, Ashley Sharp (Ryan Pinkard), Kelsey Sharp, and Aaron Sharp (Alyssa Ruiz); four great-grandchildren, Rhett Knight, Aden McClellan, Costner Simmons, and Lausen Simmons; and her sister, Frances (Don) Parks.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Simmons, Todd Simmons, Lane Simmons, Wayne Lee, and Billy Brazell.
