Lester Elbert Taylor

February 19, 1942 — October 9, 2021

Honoraville

Mr. Lester Elbert “E.T.” Taylor Sr, 79, a resident of Honoraville, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Funeral services for Mr. Taylor will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 12th, at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Leverette officiating and Dr. Mike Owenby delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Cool Springs Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Taylor was a gifted automobile mechanic who spent much of his working career with Ford Motor Company. He had a true love of music, and particularly loved singing both country and gospel music. His affection for cars ran deep, and the faster, the better. On Saturdays in the fall, you could find him cheering on his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide in college football. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always made his family his priority. The abiding love and affection they all have for each other started with Mr. Taylor and the love of his life, Judy, and that legacy will last within their family for generations to come.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, William Lamon "W.L." & Maggie Rayborn Taylor, and siblings, Mary Frances Williamson, Ollie Buis Williamson, Clara Bretzer, Evelyn Edwards, Jackson Taylor, Earnest Taylor, and his twin brother James Delbert Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judith Owenby Taylor; their children, Beverly (Stuart) Horne, Les (Tammy) Taylor Jr, Sherry (James) Gilbert; grandchildren, Kyle (Beth) Horne, Clay Horne, Colby Horne, Josh (Amber) Taylor, Nikki Taylor, Adam Taylor, Audrey Gilbert, and Ayrton Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Oakley & Aiden Horne and Wesley Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Kyle Horne, Clay Horne, Colby Horne, Josh Taylor, Adam Taylor, Ayrton Gilbert, and John Jernigan.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Compassus Hospice of Troy, 121 Scouting Circle, Troy, Alabama 36081.

They will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 - 11 AM.
