Lila Jordan Duncan, 92, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Sunday, January 21st, 2024. A chapel service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, January 24th, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Defee officiating and Rev. Joan D. Sexton delivering the eulogy. She will then be laid to rest beside her husband, Cleveland, in Faith Hill Cemetery, though there will be no graveside service in accordance with her wishes. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:30 to 2 PM.
Lila started working at Foster Manufacturing when she was only 17 years old and remained with them when they became Luverne Slacks. She spent around 50 years as a dedicated employee there and she won numerous awards for never missing a day at work. She was a talented seamstress and loved doing alterations for others in her free time. Otherwise, her primary hobby at home was her dedicated study of the Word of God. She had accumulated 19 Bibles during her lifetime and they were normally all sitting out and turned to different pages as she loved spending time with the Lord through his word. She was a also a charter member of the First Assembly of God in Luverne where she often took special requests to sing along with her husband as he played the guitar during services. She was a good, Christian woman and inspired so many throughout her lifetime to follow in her footsteps.
As the youngest of four children, Lila came along at the perfect time to be close enough in age to her nieces and nephews that she was extremely close with all of them. Though she and Cleveland were never blessed with children of their own, they enjoyed serving as bonus parents to all of her siblings' children. She could often be heard warning them as children that she was "gonna get a hickory limb to y'all," but she was apparently all talk and no bite! Lila was definitely a "people" person who would talk your ear off if you were willing to listen. There was no one she loved spending time with more than her family and cherished every moment they had together. She will be sorely missed by all those she leaves behind, but they know she is rejoicing to be reunited with her Cleveland so that they can now enjoy their heavenly reward together.
Lila was preceded in death by the love of her life, Cleveland E. Duncan; parents, Willie Horace & Lunie Susan Worthington Jordan; siblings, Nellie Gray Jordan Gardner, Lillie Mae Jordan Duncan, and Irby Florence Jordan; nieces, Mary Agnes Duncan and Mary Jordan Reeves; and nephews, Marice Sanders Duncan and Danny Gene Duncan. She is survived by her cherished nieces, Bruette Jordan Davis, Faye Duncan Johns, Shirley Jones Duncan, Ruth Anne Pinner Duncan, and Joan Duncan Sexton, and a host of multiple generations of nieces and nephews.
