Lila Minnette Brunson Kimbro, 77, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, July 13th, 2022. A graveside service for Mrs. Kimbro will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, July 17th, in Kimbro Cemetery with Brother Bob McKee officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 - 2 PM.
Minnette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and devoted friend. She was born in Elba AL on March 7, 1945. She graduated from Elba High School and immediately went to work with the State of Alabama. She served under six Directors of Public Safety State Troopers as Executive Secretary before retiring on September 1, 1998 after 35 years of faithful and dedicated service. As Harold Hammond said, "Minnette was the gatekeeper and frontline defense for the Directors and handled her duties and responsibilities in a professional manner."
Minnette and her husband, Don, were avid fishers and campers in their RV with family and friends, or often just going by themselves. Most of the fishing was done by Minnette with Don having to bait, cast, untangle lines, remove caught fish and then rebait! Minnette also loved the beach and would often spend several weeks in Florida.
Minnette's passion was shopping for clothes and jewelry. She was always fastidious in her appearance and dress. She was also an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Above all, Minnette was truly a Proverbs 31 wife of noble character, and she will always be remembered for her love of her family and friends and her willingness to help others.
Minnette was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Don Carlos Kimbro; her parents, Forrest and Thelma Wooten Brunson; her brother & sister-in-law, Forrest Randal & Judy Brunson; and her nephew, Josh Brunson.
Minnette is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert "Bob" & Deborah Collins Kimbro and Donald "Donnie" & Cathy Kimbro; granddaughters, Nichole Larimore, Sandi Gorman, and Stephanie Kimbro (Craig) Vaught: great-grandchildren, Haley Dykes, Grant Dean, Blake Dean, and Austin Gorman; and nephew, Jason (Julie) Brunson.
Active pallbearers will be Blake Dean, Grant Dean, Jason Brunson, Ricky Kimbro, Steve Sirmon, and Mike Payne.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kimbro Cemetery Fund c/o Ricky Kimbro at 976 Kimbro Road, Dozier, Alabama 36028.
