Freida Eleizabeth "Liz" Brown, 69, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024. A graveside service for Liz will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 6th, in Cool Spring Cemetery with Brother Stae Sanders officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
Liz was a born caregiver with a heart that was open to any and every one. She simply radiated love which naturally drew people to her throughout her life. Thanks to her magnetic personality and love to talk to anyone she met, the phrase "never met a stranger" was made to perfectly describe her. It didn't hurt that she was also blessed with a good sense of humor and desire to take care of everyone she knew. Her door was always open and there was always going to be enough food to feed an army if she had anything to say about it. And, oh, was that food good! There was nothing she couldn't whip up from scratch, whether it was any classic Southern staple like chicken and dumplings or the best red velvet cake you could ever hope to eat. No one was going hungry when Liz was around, and you likely weren't going home without leftovers either.
In her free time, Liz loved fishing and camping, going to yard sales, and rarely ever missed a Monday or Wednesday night of Bingo with her daughter. All of those activities usually had one thing in common too, that they were done with her family. She simply adored each and everyone one of them with all of her heart and soul, but this "Nanie" especially loved every single moment she was able to spend with her beloved grandchildren. None of them could have asked for a better role model in their lives, from her generosity and love of her fellow man to her natural grace and strength during adversity, the legacy Liz leaves behind will live on in all those who knew and loved her best.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Otis & Florence Luers Bennett, and brother, Tommy Bennett. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Kenneth Brown; children, Shanna (Grady) Smith and B.J. (Melissa) Brown; grandchildren, Courtney Smith, Christy Smith, Champ Smith, Angel Mosley, Lexi Brown, and Levi Brown; and special friends, Neil Cowles and Amy Dennis. She also had her first great-grandchild on the way who she absolutely could not wait to meet.
Active pallbearers will be Al Sexton, Austin Moseley, Ronnie Frazier, Keith Furr, Dorsey Halston Jr, and Carl Moseley.
