Lucy Ann Smith Kilpatrick passed peacefully with family by her side on Monday, September 21, 2020. Graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 2:30 PM, Rutledge Baptist Church Cemetery, Rutledge, Alabama with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
She was born July 15, 1929 in Butler Springs, AL and spent her childhood in Greenville, AL. Upon meeting the love of her life, Samuel Harold Kilpatrick, Sr., they became lifelong residents of Rutledge, AL. Lucy had a kind, caring heart and a quiet spirit that could be felt instantly. She worked hard on the family farm and instilled that same work ethic in her children. She served as secretary of the Luverne Church of Christ for thirty-five years. Spending time with family and friends gave her the greatest joy of all. Lucy was known for her brownies, chocolate cake, and southern cooking. Her dinner table was always open to everyone. Lucy had a passion for gardening that gave her joy in freezing and canning the fruits of her labor. Lucy’s legacy lives on in her family’s cherished memories.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Harold Kilpatrick, Sr.; parents, Marquis D’Lafayette Smith and Etta Saucer Smith; siblings, Woodrow Wilson Smith, Ray Pershing Smith, Mark R. Smith, Etta Jeanette Sanders, George Conrad Smith, James Milton Smith and Albert Layfette Smith; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Thomas Kilpatrick.
Survivors include her children, Samuel Harold Kilpatrick, Jr. (Vicki), Opelika, AL, Janice Louise Kilpatrick, Atlanta, GA, and Alan Mark Kilpatrick (Katherine), of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Kilpatrick West (Seth), Caroline Kilpatrick, and Henry Kilpatrick of Birmingham, AL; many beloved nieces, nephews, and Luverne Church of Christ family and friends.
